I stood up, stretched. My stomach growled. I noticed I was sitting in the dark, no lights on in the house.

It was well past supper time, and my husband was nowhere to be found.

Probably panicking about the list.

I looked at my phone, kept on the kitchen counter so I could resist the temptation, and found a text from him.

Working hard. Don’t worry. I’ve got this.

Okay, well, he’d forgotten his promise to get me dinner, but I could understand that. There was a lot to do for the event, and he’d never organized it before.

I started to reply, asking a few questions. Had he secured the decorations? Talked to the venue? Made sure our chair order was correct?

I took a deep breath, erased every question, and simply sent back a heart emoji.

With a deep breath, I pulled out veggies and hummus from the fridge to snack on, and headed back to my laptop.

If I could get Richard in line, I had to trust that Scott could get the extravaganza in line.

“Alright, Richard,” I whispered to my laptop. “Time to get you out of this couple’s way.”

I smiled, trusting that Scott would have everything in line, ignoring the tumbling of my stomach and the hiccups escaping my lips.

Scott said he’d do it. Scott would come through.
